The Outdoor Environment
We firmly believe that children flourish when playing outdoors, enabling them to explore and
help them make sense of the world around them.
At Little Blossoms we are fortunate enough to be able to explore the outdoors further in the surrounding orchards, and the children have many trips down to the farm to feed the animals.
We have a large secure garden for the under 3’s and a separate garden area for the 3 -5 year olds with a wide open space which allows the children the freedom to explore and express themselves.
At Little Blossoms, every child in the Pippins department have the opportunity to take part in Forest School , and we have a Qualified Forest School Leader who attends the setting every other week to run the session.
What is Forest School?
‘A Forest School is an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning.’
It is a child–led initiative which means that although each session is planned, it is also guided by the choices and interests that each child makes. By using the outdoor environment, children of all ages and abilities are encouraged to grow in confidence, independence and self–esteem. This is made possible by providing them with small achievable tasks so that a child never ‘fails’. As the child grows in self-esteem and self-confidence, the
challenges become more complex.
Parents have commented on the positive impact Forest Schools has had in terms of their children’s communication at home and had an increased desire to interact with parents and peers about their wonderful experiences. Children become more adventurous and were keen to develop their skills and knowledge and understanding back in the nursery setting.
